Join a room

Understand invitations, room access, participant identity and joining requirements.

A Room is where Participants, Organizers, and Moderators meet for a live uChat experience. This guide explains how to enter a Room, prepare your device, and understand what to expect when the session begins.

Who Should Use This Guide

This guide is intended for anyone joining a uChat Room as a Participant.

Before You Join

Confirm that you have:

Use headphones when possible if your environment may create echo.

  • the correct Opportunity or Room access;
  • the scheduled date and time;
  • any required invitation or payment status;
  • a supported device and browser;
  • a stable internet connection;
  • permission to use your microphone or camera when needed; and
  • enough time to join before the experience begins.

Open the Correct Opportunity or Room

Enter through the link, Opportunity, or access method provided by the Organizer.

Before continuing, verify:

Do not enter credentials into an unexpected or untrusted page.

  • the Room or Opportunity title;
  • the Organizer;
  • the event time;
  • whether the experience is already live; and
  • any joining instructions.

Enter Your Participant Information

Provide the information requested by the supported joining workflow.

Use a recognizable display name when appropriate for the experience.

Do not place private information, passwords, payment details, or confidential identifiers in your public display name.

Allow Browser Permissions

Your browser may ask for permission to use:

Grant only the permissions needed for your participation.

You can usually join and use chat without enabling your camera.

  • the microphone;
  • the camera;
  • notifications; or
  • fullscreen presentation.

Test Your Microphone

Before speaking:

Do not interrupt an active speaker unless there is an urgent reason.

  • Confirm that the correct microphone is selected.
  • Check that the browser has permission to use it.
  • Mute yourself when you are not speaking.
  • Use headphones when feedback or echo occurs.
  • Speak briefly when the Organizer invites you.

Test Your Camera

Enable your camera only when it is appropriate and you are comfortable doing so.

Before enabling it:

You may turn the camera off when it is not needed.

  • review what is visible behind you;
  • avoid exposing private documents or personal information;
  • confirm adequate lighting;
  • position the camera securely; and
  • follow the Organizer's participation expectations.

Enter the Room

After completing the joining workflow:

The presence of chat does not always mean that the live call is already active.

  • Confirm that the Room has loaded.
  • Review any welcome message or instructions.
  • Check whether the live call has started.
  • Keep your microphone muted unless invited to speak.
  • Use chat or raised hands as directed.
  • Wait for the Organizer or Moderator to begin.

Join the Live Call

When a live call is available, use the Room's call control to connect.

After joining:

  • confirm that you can hear the session;
  • verify your microphone state;
  • check your camera state;
  • review the participant controls; and
  • avoid repeatedly leaving and rejoining unless troubleshooting requires it.

Participate Respectfully

Follow the Organizer's stated format.

This may include:

A Moderator may redirect or remove Participants when necessary to protect the experience or enforce applicable rules.

  • using raised hands before speaking;
  • placing questions in chat;
  • keeping microphones muted;
  • waiting for a designated question period;
  • avoiding disruptive camera use; and
  • treating other Participants respectfully.

Leave a Room

Leaving disconnects your own device.

It does not end the live call for everyone.

To leave:

Only an authorized Organizer or Moderator should use End Call for Everyone.

  • Complete any final contribution.
  • Use the local leave or disconnect control.
  • Confirm that your microphone and camera are no longer connected.
  • Close the Room when finished.

Rejoin After Disconnection

If your connection drops:

Room messages may still be available when the Organizer has retained Room History.

  • Confirm that your internet connection is working.
  • Reopen the correct Room or Opportunity.
  • Repeat the joining workflow if required.
  • Restore microphone or camera permissions.
  • Rejoin the live call.
  • Remain muted until you are ready to participate.

Expected Results

After joining successfully:

  • the correct Room is displayed;
  • chat and participant information are available;
  • the live call can be joined when active;
  • audio and video controls respond appropriately;
  • raised hands or chat can be used for participation; and
  • leaving disconnects only your own session.

Best Practices

  • Join several minutes early.
  • Confirm the correct Room before entering.
  • Keep your microphone muted when not speaking.
  • Protect your background and private information.
  • Use raised hands rather than interrupting.
  • Follow the Organizer's participation instructions.
  • Use a current browser.
  • Rejoin calmly after a temporary disconnection.

Troubleshooting

Refresh the page, verify the link, and confirm that the Room is currently available.

Review browser permissions and confirm that another application is not exclusively using the device.

Check your device volume, selected audio output, and whether the live call has actually started.

Confirm browser permission, camera selection, and whether another application is using the camera.

Check your internet connection, reopen the Room, and join the live call again.

The Organizer may have retained Room History from an earlier or continuing session.
